I'm a fan of Viltrox gear, but I'm not sure why it's so hard to find the firmware for the Viltrox EF-M2 Pro (EF-MFT 0.71x Speedbooster). I had some problems when I tried to upgrade to the latest version, so I needed to revert to an older version - and I found it difficult to find historic firmware.
I purchased a new Viltrox EF-M2 Pro Speedbooster in early 2026 to adapt Canon EF lenses to my M4/3 (MFT aka Micro Four Thirds) camera. The firmware installed on it was v3.6 - which appeared a bit dated. I don't recommend upgrading to v5.0 because that broke auto-focus on my EF lenses i.e. the Canon 50 mm f/1.8 could no longer auto-focus... I used v4.0 - and everything appears to be okay again.
Disclaimer
I am not associated with Viltrox, I just wanted to fix what appears to be unclear firmware access for this great lens adapter. If you don't know what you're doing with these files, please do not download them, reach out to Viltrox Support instead via their official website. They are a helpful bunch! Viltrox shows you how to upgrade firmware on lens adapters here.
The EF-M2, EF-M2 II, and EF-M2 Pro speedboosters use the same firmware.
EF-M1 / EF-M2 v3.6 Firmware (2021-04-30)
Download v3.6- Official: Fixed the issue where the BMPCC 4K could not be used after upgrading to firmware version 7.3.
- My Personal NOTE: This was the original firmware installed on the EF-M2 Pro speedbooster. This ZIP file contains both EF-M1 and EF-M2 firmware. For the EF-M2 Pro, please make sure you use the file named EF-M2.vtx
EF-M2 v4.0 Firmware (2022-05-06)
Download v4.0- Official: Provides support for Canon EF lenses that support stepless aperture control (eg: EF 50mmf/1.8 STM)
- My Personal NOTE: Canon EF Lens auto-focus on the EF-M2 Pro still works fine with this firmware version
EF-M2 v5.0 Firmware (2026-01-21)
Download v5.0- Official: Mainly compatible with GH7 video autofocus, but the single autofocus effect for taking pictures is worse, but this can be compensated for by continuous autofocus for taking pictures.
- My Personal NOTE: This broke Canon EF Lens auto-focus on my adapter, I don't recommend it if you're using it for its original purpose. I installed v4.0 instead.
